Participate in the LES/LESI Royalty Rate Deal Terms Survey

As “the” premier not-for-profit organizations directly involved in technology licensing, the success of LES relies on all of our member contribution. For those involved in licensing, an up-to-date royalty survey will be extremely helpful in making fair deals happen in a timely manner. I am sure you all know that aggregated deal terms provided by any for-profit organizations, if available, are very expensive, rely on U.S. SEC data and sometimes not even very helpful for early stage or international deal benchmarking. Therefore, we need your prompt help with your participation in our current LES Global Life Sciences Royalty Rate and Deal Terms Survey.  The survey is being executed by Vault Consulting, a leading association survey organization, expert in confidential surveys, and commissioned by the LES USA/Canada and LESI on a separate, independent and confidential basis.

Each survey response will remain completely confidential. LES will never have information which can identify individuals, answers or company names. No individual survey data will be shared with any organization or entity or with members of LES staff. No product names and no company names are collected.

As an LES member involved in life sciences, you will receive via personal email a unique link to participate in the survey.  Several reminder emails will be sent to you. If you have not received your unique survey link, please email Vault atLESSurveys@vaultconsulting.com. We are requesting information on as many deals as possible from year 2014 to the present.

By including deal information from around the globe, the survey will provide you and other LES members with more robust data and include more industry metrics to assist you. Because deal terms are provided by teams siting on both end of the table, we believe a good survey will be a great start for a successful term negotiation in the future. Do not just take our word for it. Here are some thoughts from people involved in licensing about the importance of this survey:

“The Deal Terms and Royalty Rate survey offers a unique tool for dealmakers.  Among the valuable contributions of this analysis, the survey provides dealmakers with a perspective on the variety of deal structures and the range of terms incorporated within creative transactions.  It is our hope that sharing these perspectives helps more negotiators find the solutions they need.” Ben Bonifant, Partner, Triangle Insights Group, LLC; LES USA/Canada Life Sciences Sector Chair

“Conducting the LES Royalty Survey is one of ‎key activities we perform as a professional society to provide quality products and an added value to LES members. As a professional licensing society, we have a unique leadership role to play nationally and internationally in conducting the survey with neutrality, knowledge, skill, and confidentiality so that those being surveyed trust and value the resulting product and LES in general.” Jeffrey S. Whittle, Partner, Hogan Lovells US LLP; LES USA/Canada President

“The LES Life Sciences Royalty Survey is valuable resource for sophisticated licensing professionals who conduct business on a global basis. With over 9000 LES members in more than 65 countries, LES International has unmatched capabilities to help facilitate the collection of royalty data on a worldwide basis.” James Sobieraj IP Attorney, Brinks Gilson & Lione; LESI Past President

“The LES Global Life Sciences Royalty Rates & Deal Terms Survey is particularly valuable to LES members outside North America, where benchmarking resources are harder to find. Further, it covers deals at the smaller end of the spectrum, which may not be picked up in benchmarking resources focused on North America or based on deals between publicly traded companies.” Rob McInnes, Partner, DibbsBarker; LESI Australia

“The LES Royalty Survey is a unique product generated by LES members for LES members. Not only is the survey national and international, it reflects actual real life scenarios with direct relevance for all our practices, large or small. The Survey thus provides nothing less than a dictionary, enabling LES members to speak and understand licensing.” Jan B. Krauss, Partner, Boehmert & Boehmert, Germany; LESI Long Range Planning Committee.

Please submit your responses by August 26th, the Survey Deadline.

Upon completion of the survey, LES will provide YOU with an aggregate report displaying key metrics resulting from this study.

If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, or the confidentiality of your information, feel free to email Vault at LESSurveys@vaultconsulting.com. You may also contact LES directly via membership@les.org.

It is the participation, by individual members like you, which will make a difference in the success of our LES Global Life Sciences Royalty Rates and Deal Terms Survey. Together, we make things happen for our LES.
